CNC Machining Guidelines for 2024

  • Corrosion Susceptibility: The high copper content makes 2024 prone to corrosion. It must never be left bare in humid environments. We recommend Alodine (Chem Film) or Anodizing immediately after machining.
  • Soldadura: Not Weldable. 2024 should not be welded (TIG/MIG) as it causes cracking and destroys corrosion resistance. Parts are typically assembled via rivets or bolts.
  • Anodizado: 2024 can be anodized, but the copper content can turn the finish slightly yellowish or dark gray (for hardcoat). It is less cosmetic than 6061 but highly functional.
  • Herramientas: Use sharp carbide tools to ensure a clean surface finish and minimize heat buildup, which can affect the temper.
